Preparing Your Home to Sell


Pack up those personal photographs and family heirlooms. Buyers can't see past personal artifacts, and you don't want them to be distracted. You want buyers to imagine their own photos on the walls, and they can't do that if yours are there! You don't want to make any buyer ask, "I wonder what kind of people live in this home?" You want buyers to say, "I can see myself living here."


Make minor repairs

  • Repair cracked floor tiles
  • Patch holes in walls
  • Fix leaky faucets
  • Replace light bulbs
  • Paint walls neutral colors


  • Pack up the knickknacks
  • If you don't need it, donate it or throw it away
  • Remove books from book cases
  • Clean everything off kitchen counters
  • Clean/polish floors and window sills
  • Clean TV screens & light fixtures
  • Clean out fireplace


  • Mow and edge the lawn, water, fertilize if needed
  • Trim shrubs, weed flower beds, bark mulch
  • Repair steps, porch
  • Hose down siding/brick/stucco
  • Power wash driveway/deck
  • Remove extra vehicles from curb view
  • Repair roof, gutters, downspouts
  • Place potted plants, hanging flowers on deck/porch
  • Sweep walks and driveway
  • Place a wreath, doormat, potted plant at your entrance
  • Make sure visitors can clearly read your house number
